Component 12: Inpatient Rehabilitation Facilities

Definition

Rehabilitation facilities that dispense rehabilitation services for one or more regions to patients admitted. Facilities that dispense rehabilitation services for more than one region as part of a consortium are responsible for providing highly specialized services to all of the regions they serve. All these facilities also offer rehabiluitation services to victims of severe injuries.

Clientele

Trauma victims with significant persistent disabilities due to an accident.

Goal

Develop residual capabilities and compensate for motor, cognitive and behaviour impairments.

Sample Measures

The INESSS Trauma Advisory Group carries out the mandate to run and manage the Continuous Quality Improvement Program in Traumatology. The Trauma Services Advisory Group (Rehabilitation/Support for Social Participation component), working in collaboration with the Trauma Services Advisory Group (Physical Health component), evaluates inpatient rehabilitation facilities and issues recommendations on their designation or on the preservation of their designation as part of the ongoing Quality Improvement Program.

INESSS’s Trauma Services Continuum Team ensures that the Advisory Group’s recommendations are implemented.
