Component 7: Medical Stabilization Services

Definition

This type of facility is located more than 30 minutes from a trauma centre. It ensures that accident victims are medically stable within 10 minutes and provides a medical escort during ambulance transport for victims in need of emergency care.

Clientele

Trauma victims with a prehospital index of four or over or who have been involved in a high-speed collision.

Goal

Perform medical resuscitation where a victim shows no vital signs and rapidly transport a victim to the nearest designated trauma care and services centre.

Sample Measures

The INESSS Trauma Advisory Group carries out the mandate to run and manage the Continuous Quality Improvement Program in Traumatology. Under INESSS’s responsibility, the Trauma Services Advisory Group (Physical Health component) evaluates trauma care and services centres and issues recommendations on their designation or on the preservation of their designation as part of the ongoing Quality Improvement Program.


INESSS’s Trauma Services Continuum Team ensures that the Advisory Group’s recommendations are implemented.
