Component 10: Tertiary Trauma Care and Services Centres

Definition

Facilities that offer specialized and highly specialized trauma care, neurosurgery, specialized intensive care and early interdisciplinary rehabilitation. These facilities carry out some of their work as part of a consortium or expert care centres.

Clientele

Severe multiple trauma, neurotrauma and pediatric victims.

Goal

Provide critical and acute care where needed and offer interdisciplinary early rehabilitation. Transfer victims in need of rehabilitation according to service corridors.

Sample Measures

The INESSS Trauma Advisory Group carries out the mandate to run and manage the Continuous Quality Improvement Program in Traumatology. Under INESSS’s responsibility, the Trauma Services Advisory Group (Physical Health component), working in collaboration with the Trauma Services Advisory Group (Rehabilitation/Support for Social Participation component), evaluates trauma care and services centres and issues recommendations on their designation or on the preservation of their designation as part of the ongoing Quality Improvement Program.

INESSS’s Trauma Services Continuum Team ensures that the Advisory Group’s recommendations are implemented.
